Carey Mulligan scoops best dressed award

Carey Mulligan scoops best dressed award 2010: Young actress’s kooky fashion savvy beats Victoria Beckham and Yasmin Le Bon to Harper’s Bazaar’s best dressed crown. The young British star Carey Mulligan, has been crowned the Best Dressed Woman of 2010 by the UK glossy, Harper’s Bazaar. The 25-year-old actress outclassed more seasoned contenders for the title such as Victoria Beckham, Tilda Swinton, Natalia Vodianova, and even the Prime Minister’s wife, SamCam.
Mulligan, described by one of the judges, the designer Erdem Moralioglu, as being “Like a Godard starlet – but totally modern”, has rarely been off the fashion radar since her much-nominated appearance in “An Education”.
With the assistance of her stylist, Tina Laakkonen, she continually challenges and surprises with her insider knowledge of the latest lust-have names. In the last year alone, she has worn Lanvin, Vionnet, Azzaro, Nina Ricci, Giles and Bottega Veneta, together with Chanel, Prada, Miu Miu, Elie Saab, Proenza Schouler and, the Singaporean, Nepal-raised and New York-based, Prabal Gurung, who is one of American Vogue’s Anna Wintour’s ‘hot’ names to watch.
Mulligan’s only slight fall from style grace happened in the aftermath of her recent break-up with actor, Shia LaBeouf, but even then she managed to make grunge-y jeans, a scraggy T-shirt and no make-up look appealing rather than appalling.
Victoria Beckham was the runner-up in the Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed poll, with Yasmin Le Bon in third place.
The judging panel, which included the magazine’s editor, Lucy Yeomans, Sienna Miller, Stephen Jones, Kim Hersov and Moralioglu, selected the Top 20 women who represent all that is great about British style today, ranging in age from Coco Sumner, the 20-year old daughter of Sting, to Bianca Jagger, 65. The list also included the mother-and-daughter duo of the ‘Brazilian Bombshell’, Andrea Dellal, and her shoe designer-daughter, Charlotte.
Others listed included Alexa Chung, Florence Welch, Kristin Scott Thomas, Natalie Massenet, Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, Sienna Miller, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Shingai Shoniwa of The Noisettes.
Full list below.

20. Coco Sumner – musician

4 ways to wear your favourite summer clothes into fallsu

4 ways to wear your favourite summer clothes into fall: Let’s face it — fashion is fickle. The wide-leg trousers you adored last year have been replaced by their super svelte cousin, the skinny pant. And it’s just a matter of time before your beloved circle skirt looks passé when compared to the newly revived pencil version. But does that mean you should shelve summer’s key pieces at the first sign of fall? Far from it, says Judy Inc. fashion stylist Rita Fiorucci. She says you can don your favourite lightweight summer dress, tank top or flowing skirt from season to season. It’s just a matter of knowing how to wear them.
“I think a lot of people get caught up with the idea that certain pieces are strictly for summer or fall,” she says. “In reality, it’s really easy to make a great pair of pants or shoes or whatever work throughout the year — it comes down to what you wear it with.” Here are her top four season-neutral picks and how to wear them year round.
Summer trend: Peep-toe heels, wedges and sandals with heels
They’re an easy way to dress up casual attire and add sophistication to any look, says Fiorucci.
How to wear it for fall: Since bare legs and brisk winds don’t mix, pair any of the above with wool-based texturized stockings, suggests Fiorucci. “Last year, stockings were more opaque and uniform in colour. This season, the more visual interest they have, the better.”
Summer trend: The tank top
Always a fashion favourite, the tank works because it’s a no-brainer. Worn alone or layered, with Bermuda shorts or a billowy skirt, it’s a hot-weather staple that can easily be worn year-round.
How to wear it for fall: Loading up on layers is always smart when the cooler weather hits, so use tanks to your advantage. Wear them under blazers, cardigans or sweaters — they can be a great way to add colour to your wardrobe if you live in black.
Summer trend: High-waisted skirts and waist belts
Because they flatter most body types and help slim (or create the illusion of) a narrow waist, belts are a great way to accentuate this potentially problematic area.
How to wear it for fall: “I’d wear the skirt and belt with a really great turtleneck or button-down collared shirt paired with either a boot or a stacked heel,” says Fiorucci. The key? Increasing the sophistication factor with textured fabrics and looking for a shape-flattering fit.
Summer trend: The skinny pant
A longtime favourite of the slim-legged, they have the potential to work for most body shapes –- as long as they’re proportioned to your body.
How to wear it for fall: “Skinny pants can be tricky to pull off,” says Fiorucci, “but they’re quite flattering if you find the right fit.” Her suggestion for first-time skinny wearers: start with a straight-leg pant. “They’re a great option because they give the slim look without you having to commit to the real thing. And if you like and feel comfortable in them, you can always go for the real thing.”
The bottom line
Don’t put seasonal limitations on your wardrobe. The best way to get your money’s worth on any piece is to make use of it, so look for staples that can work interchangeably as the temperature rises and drops.

Lily Allen to get married in Chanel wedding dress

Lily Allen to get married in Chanel wedding dress 2011: Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has been commissioned to create Miss Allen’s wedding gown. While speculation continues concerning the possible bridal gown choices of both Kate Middleton (will it really be McQueen?!), and Kate Moss (will John Galliano be up to the challenge?), one person who has got her wedding day attire sorted is Lily Allen.
According to WWD , the singer was spotted at the Chanel headquarters in Paris on Monday afternoon, patiently waiting for a wedding dress fitting. “I’m here to see Karl for my wedding dress” she disclosed.

Allen, who is due to marry long-term boyfriend Sam Cooper this year, was signed up by Lagerfeld in 2009 to star as the “face” of Chanel’s Coco Coccon handbag line, and have been fashionable friends ever since. She even performed live at Chanel’s spring/summer 2010 show , and as one of the French luxury label’s ‘ambassadors’, she is rarely pictured without a Chanel bag dangling from her arm.
Today she was on the front row at the autumn/winter 2011 show, which was held at the Grand Palais in the French capital. Perhaps Allen was eyeing up a potential going-away outfit?

Milan Fashion Week Prada Spring Summer

Milan Fashion Week 2010: Prada Spring Summer 2011: “It’s time to be bold” Miuccia Prada said and sent her beauties down the runway wearing colorful sun frocks, stripy suits, extraordinary bright shoes and simple but classy handbags. I guess I forgot about huge sunhats and fake fur accessories in plenty. This was her Spring/ Summer 2011 collection that she presented as a part of Milan Fashion Week.
In contrast to Prada Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 collection (see Prada Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 ad campaign) that seemed granny-like to me, the new Spring/ Summer 2011 one is much fresher and more youthful. We see neon hues playing with elaborate cartoonish prints, bold flesh-exposing designs combined with strictly official minimalistic ensembles, and lots of fun derived from unusual shoes and chic colored fur tails.
I like the collection very much. It reminds me of my teen years when I pulled on various clothing pieces that at first sight seemed absolutely incompatible but when together and assembled right gave that pretty exravagant and sophisticated look I was always proud of. But Prada is Prada and even now being a smarter lady I feel I still can wear such pieces, designer pieces actually.
